Opening Doors: Unlocking Community, Creativity, and Change
A More Than a Roof Foundation Speaker Series
Darren Ng: The Science of Possibility – September 17, 2026
What if the most important thing we can create isn’t a program or a system, but the conditions where people can discover what they’re capable of?
Join us for an unforgettable evening with award-winning educator and More Than a Roof alumnus Darren Ng. This event is part inspiring story, part live science class, and very likely the most fun you’ve had learning in a long time.
Darren is a high school science teacher at New Westminster Secondary School, known for turning classrooms into spaces of curiosity, creativity, and controlled chaos where experiments pop, ooze, zap, and sometimes explode. His approach has earned national recognition, including the Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence.
As a former More Than a Roof resident, Darren experienced firsthand how stable housing and a strong community can create the foundation for discovery, confidence, and purpose.
This is more than a talk. It’s a chance to experience “the best science class ever,” followed by a moderated conversation on what it takes to unlock potential, in classrooms, in communities, and in each other.
An Olympic Champion’s Fighting Chance
After facing a season of housing instability where they couch surfed, stayed with friends and even slept in their car, Olympic gold medalist Camryn Rogers and her mom, Shari, were offered a home at More Than a Roof’s Dockside Village in Richmond.
The sports network, TSN, shared Camryn’s story, highlighting More Than a Roof as a turning point in her journey
The Affordability Crisis Is Complex. Generosity Isn’t.
In conversation with CBC News Vancouver’s Dan Burrett, More Than a Roof Foundation Executive Director Scott Campbell reflects on food security, affordability, and the power of generosity, offering a message that reminds British Columbians how each of us can help build a more hopeful future.
