Juan’s Vision for the Future
“I have a strong vision for my future in business. After completing my degree, I plan to pursue a career in real estate, focusing on house flipping. I aspire to lead a smart, driven team where we can learn from one another and grow together. On the athletic side, my ultimate dream is to become an Olympian. Since I was a child, I’ve envisioned myself touching the wall first in the 200-meter backstroke or butterfly, winning gold for this beautiful country.”

Jordan’s Journey of Resilience
“This scholarship covers an entire semester of studying for me which helps a ton. I never imagined how much help there would be for me to reach my goals — I thought I would be on my own in a lot of ways. I don’t know where I’d be without this support — from MTR and from all the people who are journeying with me.”

Dilan’s Voice Through Poetry and Service
Dilan Qadir is a Kurdish Canadian writer and one of the Writers’ Trust of Canada 2025 Rising Stars.
Alongside his creative work, Dilan serves on the front lines in addiction and mental health support. He is currently advancing his training through the Counselling Skills Foundations certificate at Vancouver Community College, supported in part by a 2025 bursary from the Foundation.
His poem, Praying, and his personal story reflect the intersection of creativity, service, and healing.
“A prayer draws and levels my palms in front of my chest, lifting my gaze toward the sky, where they say benevolence dwells, where geese fly in the distance, where dreams of freedom take flight, and where border agents hold no sway over clouds.
A prayer guides my eyes toward the horizon where an orange-like sun bids its farewell: May your words burn like candles, their glow a refuge against the darkness.”
