What We Do

We are passionate about building opportunities for MTR residents to leverage their housing stability to make significant changes in their education, health and community.

Our initiatives address the real-life challenges MTR residents have told us they face every day: how to feed their families, educate their children, improve their physical and mental health and connect meaningfully with their community.

Food security

It’s hard to learn, grow or contribute to your community well when you’re hungry. Our community food programs and pantries ensure that quality food is close-at-hand for our residents — filling tummies and fuelling possibility.

Soul Kitchen

Soul Kitchen is our practical, low-barrier response to the daily challenges of food insecurity for folks living at four of our Downtown Vancouver locations.

Increasing access to education

Our financial awards program — which includes scholarships, bursaries and grants — is our flagship initiative to encourage and champion MTR residents and staff to pursue their goals. The funding opportunities are as diverse as our recipients. At our annual awards event we celebrate the recipients of scholarships for education, bursaries for summer camps and job skills acquisition programs, and grants that fund  community-building activities. These financial awards are an essential way that we help unlock new possibilities for MTR community members.

Championing people's mental and physical health

Just because you’re housed, doesn’t mean you’re healthy. With a host of health care professionals at their side, MTR residents have the support they need to address a wide range of personal health challenges ranging from addiction and trauma and age-in-place care.

Investing in community-wide wellness

People thrive in community — but community doesn’t just happen. Investments in block parties, book clubs, BBQs, access to chaplaincy and more help combat isolation, encourage collaboration and open more opportunities for people to journey meaningfully together through life.
